For many families, backyard fun in the sun involves the swimming pool. Experts recommend setting the stage for swimming safety before a single bathing suit ever gets wet. "Swimming pool safety should be on the minds of every parent," said Emily Piercefield with the Healthy Swimming Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Reinforcing safe swimming practices with kids is the best way to make them second nature — like wearing seat belts." More

TIME    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In part because we have a political press obsessed with Washington, D.C., we tend to gauge the success of climate and energy legislation only through the national lens. And the picture from Capitol Hill is deeply depressing. One party completely ignores the science of climate change and only wants to engage on fossil fuels, and that doesn't exactly leave a lot of room for the other party — although the Democrats have their own divisions on climate and energy. The result — as we've written over and over again — is gridlock. More

While sustainability is an important factor for a growing number of hospitals when they choose hard-flooring products, an even greater number still purchase traditional products whose cost and proven performance take priority over any "green" shortcomings. Part 1: Solving the compact-laundry dilemma
American Laundry News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Anyone who has ever been challenged to shoehorn a functional laundry into a tiny space knows that they can perform such a feat, but the sequel is making that laundry work properly. Nowhere is this situation more profound than in the cruise line industry, where a square foot of space is like gold. And nowhere in the annals of commercial/industrial laundry design are there as many examples of laundries that do not work because they were designed by people not qualified nor practiced in process (work) flow.
