The Birmingham News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Birmingham, Ala., is a city that isn't afraid to celebrate its culture. Every year, events like Sidewalk Film Festival, Trucks By The Tracks and Paint the Town Red, energize downtown with showcases of art, music and food. But on Dec. 11, a proposed ordinance could bite a huge chunk out of our beloved festivals. The Birmingham City Council is set to review new rules that would limit the hours and locations where mobile food vendors could park their trucks and carts. Also, the new rules would determine how much those vendors would pay in annual fees. More

1150-AM    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The City of Kelowna, B.C., says it has a new plan of attack when it comes to attracting big events and festivals to the city. Director of Recreation and Cultural Services, Jim Gabriel, says the plan takes a look at the current practice and how they can make it better. "What we'll be talking a bit about is the importance of events and what they bring to a community and look at a different framework and a different approach, one that becomes a bit more strategic, a bit more collaborative; creating a framework that better positions the city to consider events and work with event organizers down the road," says Gabriel. Watertown Daily Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In Ogdensburg, N.Y., parades and festivals represent civic pride, homecomings and traditions old and new — but they also sap the city's coffers.
