How gay rights won in Indiana

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence approved changes by lawmakers to a controversial state law on religious freedom recently, essentially conceding defeat to a concerted alliance of liberal interest groups and large corporations over gay rights. The new version of the law clarifies that it will not allow businesses to discriminate against gay Hoosiers, a fix that Republican backers and Pence had once argued was not necessary.

174 million Chinese tourists to spend record $264B by 2019

Outbound tourism from China is to swamp the world by 2019 with a wave of 174 million Chinese with $264 billion to spend on overseas shopping, according to a report from Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Some 174 million Chinese tourists are expected to spend $264 billion by 2019 in comparison with the 109 million who spent $164 billion in 2014, according to new analysis by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Bloomberg reports.

Portland, Oregon, to host 2016 LGBT World Cup

It's known as the gay world cup, and it's coming to Rose City. Portland, Oregon, has secured the bid for one of the biggest LGBT sporting events in the world, the 2016 International Gay and Lesbian Football Association World Championship. Portland, a surprise choice when pitted against a rival proposal from New York, won the bid after an extended deadline and a multi-agency effort to to bring the tournament to the Northwest.

US LGBT groups want Obama to tackle Jamaica on human rights concerns

The Jamaica Coalition for Healthy Lifestyle (JCHL) says it has taken note of an open letter dated April 3 from various organizations in the United States and posted on FreedomHouse.org, urging President Barack Obama to raise concerns about the abuse of rights of the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender (LGBT) community in Jamaica with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and other Caribbean heads of state when they meet in the island.

Teachers back call over LGBT rights
