Thank you to UK Ambassador Jonathan Mountford of made for engaging IGLTA in a UKInbound seminar on LGBT travel on 15 July at London's Charing Cross Theatre. In addition to Mountford and IGLTA VP Clark Massad, other participating association members included Paul Gauger, Head of International Press for VisitBritain, and Uwern Jong, Editor in Chief of OutThere Magazine. They were joined by representatives from the Government Equalities Office, DCMS; Visit Manchester; The View from the Shard; and Ripley's Believe it or Not.

Sweeping federal LGBT rights bill will be introduced this week
The Advocate
Legislation will be introduced in Congress on 23 July to amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal laws to protect LGBT people from discrimination, The Advocate has learned. Democrats Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Cory Booker of New Jersey are the lead sponsors in the Senate; David Cicilline of Rhode Island, also a Democrat, will be the lead sponsor in the House.

HUD moves to protect older LGBT people, Obama pushes auto IRA plans

The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently issued new guidance on rules to ensure that gay people are protected from discrimination in federally subsidized housing, particularly in programs designed for older Americans. The announcement coincided with the White House Conference on Aging in which a more visible and vocal group of advocates have called for greater protections for older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Gay parents fight to leave Thailand with surrogate baby daughter

A same-sex couple is embroiled in a legal battle in Thailand after the surrogate mother who gave birth to their child has refused to allow them to leave the country claiming she was unaware they were gay. The surrogate — who is biologically unrelated to the baby — handed over baby Carmen to Gordon Lake, an American, and his Spanish husband, Manuel, in January but later refused to sign documents to allow the infant to get a passport.

US agency rules for gays in workplace discrimination

The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has ruled that workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is illegal under federal law, setting the stage for litigation aimed at striking down such practices. The commission's ruling, issued recently, hinged on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination on the basis of sex in employment settings.

AP-GfK Poll: No rise in support for gay marriage after Supreme Court rules to legalize it
The Associated Press via U.S. News & World Report
The Supreme Court's ruling last month legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide has left Americans sharply divided, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll that suggests support for gay unions may be down slightly from earlier this year. The poll also found a near-even split over whether local officials with religious objections should be required to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, with 47 percent saying that should be the case and 49 percent say they should be exempt.

Study: Guest satisfaction at record high

Hotel guest satisfaction has risen to a record high, while the number of guests experiencing problems during their stay has dropped significantly, according to the J.D. Power 2015 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study. Airbnb expands business travel program worldwide
Successful Meetings
Since launching last July, its Business Travel program has grown 700 percent with the addition of more than 250 corporate users, including Google, GBWA, Twilio, and Sound Cloud, among others, according to home sharing website Airbnb, which recently announced the program's global expansion with the introduction of a new product suite designed to make it easier for companies to use Airbnb to book accommodations.
