BOARD CORNER

Meet the vice chair: Marta Dalla Chiesa
IGLTA
I became a member of IGLTA in 2008 and participated in my first Annual Global Convention in Toronto in 2009. I have attended all IGLTA conventions since. My real involvement with the association started with the IGLTA Symposium in Florianopolis in 2009 and grew when I became the Brazilian Ambassador and then a nominee to the board in 2010 and 2011. I was elected to a two-year board term in 2012. Because I am a small-business owner, lesbian and a non-North-American member, my focus on the board has always involved these sectors of the membership.

IGLTA Foundation supports Prague Pride
IGLTA
The IGLTA Foundation strives to raise awareness for our industry by supporting destinations and events that are seeking to expand LGBT travel in their region. One such event is Prague Pride, now the largest LGBT gathering in Eastern Europe. In keeping with its 2013 theme, Coming Out, Prague Pride will host a lively debate, "Coming out and Politics." Do politicians have an obligation to others in the LGBT community to live openly and proudly? What does the coming out process look like for politicians in different parts of the world? Merryn Johns, Editor-in-Chief of Curve magazine (an IGLTA media partner), will moderate this panel discussion featuring U.S. Congressman David Cicilline, conservative member of the British Parliament Michael Freer, and member of Parliament for the Dutch Liberal Party VVD Mark Verheijen, among others. The debate will be streamed live on 13 August at noon GMT (8 a.m. ET). View the live stream. For more information on Prague Pride, visit praguepride.com.

Destination marketing: Making global travel easy
By Archita Datta Majumdar
At a time when the world is poised to perfectly harness the shrinking structure of the economy, it takes special strategies like destination marketing to open up new lands and increase footfalls across the globe. The wanderlust is an integral part of the human psyche and is evident even in ancient man who ventured out of his comfort zone to explore new lands beyond his own and extend the frontiers of human civilization. Travel and tourism today is a billion-dollar industry that spikes this wanderlust in us and lures us to visit new places from time to time.
