Join IGLTA at TIX in Orlando

We are partnering with Travel Industry Exchange this year in an effort to continue expanding the association's buyer outreach. The event will be held in Orlando 15-17 September at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and includes specialist accreditation for travel agents. IGLTA will lead the "LGBT Destination and Travel Trends" session in the Wedding and Romance Travel Specialist certification program with Belmond, Cruise Planners, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority at 4:30 p.m., 16 September. IGLTA members receive 10 percent off tables at the event, which includes an appointment system for one-on-one meetings. Same-sex couples sue over Mississippi adoption ban

A lawsuit filed recently is seeking to overturn a ban forbidding same-sex couples from adopting children in Mississippi, the last state in the nation to deny adoption to homosexuals. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Mississippi by the Campaign for Southern Equality on behalf of four Mississippi same-sex couples.

Guam lawmakers pass LGBT bills

Lawmakers in Guam on 12 August approved bills that formally extend marriage rights to same-sex couples and ban anti-LGBT discrimination in the U.S. territory. KUAM reported members of the Guam Senate by a 13-2 vote margin approved a bill that amends the island's legal code to create "equality in civil marriage." Lawmakers unanimously passed the anti-discrimination measure.

US, Chile put spotlight on extremist attacks on LGBT people

The United States and Chile are putting the spotlight on "the barbaric treatment" of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people by the Islamic State extremist group. U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power and Chile's U.N. Ambassador Cristian Barros Melet have invited members of the U.N. Security Council to an open meeting on 24 August to hear from an Iraqi and a Syrian who have been targeted by the militant group for being gay, the head of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission and others.

Cayman Islands reaffirms ban on gay marriage in wake of European court verdict
