#IGLTA2018 host city: Toronto
IGLTA
We're Canada-bound in 2018, bringing our Annual Global Convention to Toronto for the second time in the association's history. IGLTA's board of directors selected Ontario's capital city — long celebrated for its vibrant LGBT community — for the 35th edition of the conference, 9-12 May 2018. The convention will take place at the downtown Westin Harbour Castle hotel on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Dutch open doors to Russian LGBT asylum claims

The situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Russia has deteriorated so much that the Netherlands how considers them a "risk group." For this reason the Netherlands has made it easier for Russian homosexuals to find asylum here. State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice informed the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, about this in a letter, NRC reports.

Sweden's 1st LGBT retirement home — a model for rainbow ageing?

There's a lengthy waiting list for a place at Sweden's first retirement home for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, its success highlighting a growing demand for accommodation specifically for elderly LGBT people. Opened in 2013, Regnbagen, or rainbow house, doesn't look any different from the other modern apartment blocks in the quiet, leafy Stockholm suburb that overlooks the city's port.

A spokesperson for the government rebuked the rumor that the country may move to decriminalize homosexuality. A spokesperson from the Malawian Government quashed the notion that the country has plans to hold a referendum to discuss decriminalizing homosexuality and legalizing same-sex marriage.

Gay rights bill faces GOP roadblock

Republicans are proving to be a roadblock for a sweeping civil rights bill championed by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Despite a string of federal victories for the LGBT community, including a landmark Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage, the group has been unable to drum up any public GOP support for its chief legislative priority — a measure meant to assure equal rights in employment, housing and public accommodations.

Australian leader, opposing gay marriage, faces party and family opposition

Even the prime minister's sister is unhappy with him. About two-thirds of Australians support same-sex marriage, surveys have found. Bangladesh gets 1st lesbian comic strip
Al Jazeera
Bangladesh's first comic strip featuring a young lesbian discovering her sexuality has been launched in the capital to raise awareness of the plight of gays in the conservative Muslim-majority nation. Boys of Bangladesh, the country's largest gay rights group, launched "Dhee", the Bengali word for intellect or wisdom.
