"2012 will be a year of fairly slow growth," said Kimberly Ritter-Martinez, an economist with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. Retailers and designers alike predict in 2012 that the gray color group will grow in popularity, according to Casual Living's exclusive 2012 Fabric Survey. The survey revealed the brown color group is slipping in popularity, although it remains the top performing fabric color group for 2012 for outdoor cushions, slings/straps and decorative pillows.

While spring and fall seasons may give us more to to ooh and ahh over, pre-collections often present more of what we actually want to wear. It makes sense, since everyone says the in-between seasons are the most important for retailers. And these designers have succeeded in making things we already want to buy, desperately. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until early summer ("pre-fall" is a bit of a misnomer) to do so.

Furniture factory orders in October were 11 percent above October 2010, according to the latest survey of manufacturers and distributors by the accounting firm Smith Leonard. The October increase came on the heels of a 12 percent jump in September and a 9 percent increase in August. For the first 10 months of 2011, orders were 7 percent ahead of the same period in 2010, according to the survey.
