Advancing plastic thermoforming technologies — Let's shape up
By Don Rosato, Aldo Crugnola and Nick Schott
The thermoforming process typically consists of heating thermoplastic sheet, film or profile to its softening point and then forcing the hot, flexible material against the contours of a mold in three ways: pneumatic means, mechanical means, or a combination of pneumatic and mechanical means. Recent advances in thermoforming have come in both software and machinery. For example, injection molders are not the only plastic processors that can benefit from process simulation software.

Why manufacturing still counts in the US economy
    The Wall Street Journal
The U.S. economy is dominated by service work but manufacturing matters because it includes many middle-class jobs. New report says the US 'manufacturing renaissance' doesn't exist
    Business Insider
Have we been letting a good story get in the way of the facts? The "manufacturing renaissance" has been the central point in the return of America's industrial power. Strong manufacturing is good for everyone
    The Hill
Why is U.S. manufacturing thriving? One reason is the availability of affordable energy. An October 2014 report by the International Monetary Fund showed that exports of manufactured products have risen 6 percent since the start of America’s shale-gas production boom. It's a sign that plentiful, affordable natural gas is benefiting U.S. manufacturing. Low oil prices are helping as well.

    Obama touts US manufacturing gains
    Voice of America
From lowering unemployment to boosting manufacturing, President Barack Obama is expected to tout gains in the U.S. economy during his State of the Union address on Jan. 20. The president also has called for increased American innovation to help grow the middle class and help the United States compete globally. When Drew Greenblatt bought Marlin Steel Wire Products in 1998, the workers were paid minimum wage and bent steel by hand to form wire baskets to hold bread.
