    The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund was created as a benefit to children of MDNA member firm employees. The scholarship applications for the 2013-2014 academic year have been mailed.     US Manufacturing Weakens, But May Rebound Quickly

    Manufacturing got off to a weak start this year in the United States as motor vehicle output tumbled in January, but a rebound in factory activity in New York State suggested that any setback would be temporary. In a further sign that the sluggish economic recovery remains on track, consumers were a bit more upbeat, even as they paid more for gasoline and a tax increase reduced their paychecks. More

    Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is making a couple of stops in upstate New York to talk about new federal legislation to boost high-tech manufacturing across the state. Gillibrand says her first bill in the new Congress would create a federal funding competition encouraging regional public-private partnerships to spur growth of local manufacturing industries, especially in clean-tech and high-tech manufacturing.     Ball Corp. to Close Manufacturing Plant

    Ball Corp. says it will close a food packaging and aerosol can manufacturing plant in Elgin, Ill., in December. Broomfield, Ill. based Ball will report a $21 million after-tax charge as a result of the closure, according to a company press statement. The plant's 245 workers will receive severance pay and can apply for other open positions within the company. More
