    Ball Corp. to Close Manufacturing Plant
    Boulder County Business Report
    Ball Corp. says it will close a food packaging and aerosol can manufacturing plant in Elgin, Ill., in December. Broomfield, Ill. based Ball will report a $21 million after-tax charge as a result of the closure, according to a company press statement. The plant's 245 workers will receive severance pay and can apply for other open positions within the company.

    US Manufacturing Weakens, But May Rebound Quickly

    Manufacturing got off to a weak start this year in the United States as motor vehicle output tumbled in January, but a rebound in factory activity in New York State suggested that any setback would be temporary. In a further sign that the sluggish economic recovery remains on track, consumers were a bit more upbeat, even as they paid more for gasoline and a tax increase reduced their paychecks.

    European Scrap Port Prices Increase As Fears Of Oversupply Subside
    Platts
    Port prices in Benelux terminals increased this week as local recyclers eyed gains in bimonthly settlements with local steelmakers and exporters tried to fill vessels for shipments already booked to Turkish steelmakers, market participants said. Mills in Turkey had been holding off scrap purchases in handy size cargoes after seeing a weaker euro after Italian elections and believing that some oversupply would help weaken prices.
