Robot manufacturing invades US as ABB sees market
    Investor's Business Daily
After 40 years building robots in Europe, and then China, Swiss power and automation technology firm ABB formally started up a robot-building operation just north of Detroit, in Auburn Hills, Michigan. That makes it the first global industrial robotics company to manufacture robots in the U.S., ABB says.

Smart manufacturing: A path to profitable growth
    The Huffington Post
A bullet train is leaving the station, and it promises to transform and propel U.S. manufacturers who climb on board — in a wave of information technology known as smart manufacturing. The big names are not just aboard, they're driving the train: IBM announced in March it will spend $3 billion in the next four years to create an "Internet of Things" unit and develop software to help customers do the same, taking advantage of a paradigm of embedded, intra-machine connectivity, enabling machines (including everyday appliances) to communicate with one another and to adjust, without human assistance, to changing conditions.

Businesses, local government work together to create manufacturing jobs
    By Alan Kelsky
From the federal to the local level, the government is supporting new ways to fill the 500,000 available manufacturing jobs that stay open because qualified job applicants are scarce. But America is ingenious finding solutions, and states and cities have paired with manufacturers of all types to offer paid manufacturing internships.

Murphy seeks change in trade bill to boost manufacturing
The Associated Press via The Washington Times
U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, an opponent of trade legislation now before the Senate, is seeking to change it to include a provision supporting U.S. manufacturing. The Connecticut Democrat has offered an amendment to prohibit federal agencies from waiving requirements that they purchase goods manufactured in the U.S. if an American company can produce the same item at a competitive price, or if a waiver to that requirement would cause a U.S. company to close.

What US manufacturing needs to succeed
    CNBC
Today, manufacturing in the U.S. is as resilient and robust as ever. But to continue manufacturing's success in the U.S., we must create a business environment that enables our progress. We need an environment that helps manufacturers succeed. Manufacturing in the U.S. has succeeded because our solutions are grounded on fundamental values. The first of these values is free enterprise: market forces that drive innovation and growth. Another is competitiveness: our ability to invest and expand markets and succeed in the global economy.
