    The Abbott-DiPaolo Chapter Challenge
    MDNA
    The 2012-2013 Abbott-DiPaolo Chapter Challenge ended on March 30. The Chapter Challenge turned out to be a huge chapter build and was very successful. The winning division was Division II — Chicago, New York/New Jersey and Southeast chapters. Congratulations to the Chicago Chapter for earning the most individual chapter points.

    New Chapter Challenge
    MDNA
    The Chapter Challenge has been extended for another year. However, the divisions have been rearranged so that different chapters can work together. The new chapter challenge divisions are:

    Division I - Chicago, Southwest, New England
    Division II - Detroit/Toledo, European, Ohio Valley
    Division III - West Coast, Milwaukee/Minneapolis, New York/New Jersey
    Division IV - Cleveland, Canada, Philadelphia, Southeast

    MDNA began tallying chapter challenge points April 1.

    Ray Roberts Raffle for the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund
    MDNA

    Congratulations to Ryan Haas, the lucky winner of the $10,000 prize in the Ray Roberts Raffle for the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund. Chris Walker/Canadian Chapter received $500 for selling the winning ticket. We would also like to congratulate Jeremy Shuster, the son of MDNA President Ron Shuster, who won $2,000; U.S. Equipment Co., who won $1,500; and John Lawton, Machinesused.com, who won $1,000. Thank you to everyone who bought and sold tickets. The students and their parents appreciate your support of the Scholarship Fund.

    Melco drives slump on manufacturing data

    Chinese stocks listed in the U.S. tumbled to the lowest in three weeks, led by Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd., and China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd., as a report showed manufacturing in the world's second-largest economy contracted for the first time in seven months. The Bloomberg China-U.S. Equity Index of the most-traded Chinese stocks in the U.S. slid 1.3 percent to 92.64 in New York, the lowest since May 3. Casino operator Melco Crown declined to a one-month low and China Unicom, the nation's second-largest mobile-phone company, sank the most since January.

    Kansas City Fed manufacturing unexpectedly turns positive
    Business Insider
    The Kansas City Fed's latest report on regional manufacturing conditions is out. The headline index unexpectedly turned positive, climbing to +2 from -5 in April. Any reading above 0 on the index indicates expansionary conditions, so this is good news.

    EU plans $6.4 billion effort to boost chip manufacturing
    CNET
    The European Commission announced plans to spend 5 billion euros ($6.4 million) over the next seven years to try to spur microprocessor manufacturing in the European Union. The funds, which the E.C. said will be matched by the same amount coming from the private sector, are designed to enable Europe to double its share of chip manufacturing and thereby help other industrial sectors that are embracing electronics.
