    NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER RALLIES EXCITEMENT

MDNA's New England Chapter has been targeting members of other chapters to attend their meetings with the objective to make more "deals" together. On June 18, they met with MDNA members from across the USA to kick things off with a tour of member firm Gold Machinery Group, followed by dinner at Via Roma Italian Restaurant, where the meeting focused on doing more business together!

Read first-hand what guests had to say about this incredibly well-attended meeting. Special thanks to MDNA Premier Vendor, Pedowitz Machinery Movers, for sponsoring this meeting.

US manufacturing growth improves and hiring gains
    The New York Times
American manufacturing growth improved and private-sector businesses added jobs at a robust pace in June, data released showed. The Institute for Supply Management, a trade group of purchasing managers, said that its manufacturing index rose to 53.5 last month from 52.8 in May. Manufacturing activity matched January’s level for the highest this year. Any reading above 50 signals expansion.

Tech and innovation power Detroit's manufacturing revival
    CNBC
Once the center of the automotive universe, Detroit had been doubly battered in recent years, first by offshoring tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs and the shuttering of hundreds of factories, then by the Great Recession and the housing crisis, which led to massive foreclosures and blighted neighborhoods. By the time the city was forced to declare bankruptcy two years ago, Detroit was $18 billion in debt and its population was the lowest since the 1910 census.

Why don't more fashion brands manufacture in the US?
    Fashionista
It's no secret that the U.S. manufacturing industry is far from what it used to be, and that the price of cheap clothing comes at a horrible human cost. But despite efforts to bring manufacturing back to America, foreign imports still dominate the U.S. apparel market. Between February 2013 and February 2014, the U.S. exported $5.8 billion worth of apparel and imported $80 billion, according to the Department of Commerce's Office of Textiles and Apparel. But why is that, really? Your initial response might be, "Duh, it's cheaper to make things in poorer countries."
