    Marketing Website Update
    Get Involved, be heard.
MDNA is in a transitional phase as we work behind the scenes to develop our new website. The anticipated new website launch date is FALL 2014. In the meantime you may notice some design changes occurring within our communications that will provide you with a sneak peek into the new look!

The MDNA PR Committee would like to give everyone a voice on the website in the form of testimonials from your company that we may publish with the new site launch.

Find out what we are looking for and how to submit for the website here.

Don't miss your chance to have a voice on www.mdna.org.

    LOCATOR
August Directory Closing is July 10

Have you updated your listings yet for the Locator August print directory? The Locator directory’s circulation totals 100,000 and is a controlled list targeted specifically to the metalworking industry. An additional 40,000 recipients are notified each month electronically. The directory targets prospective buyers in both the United States and Canada so it's a great way to keep your machines in the public eye in Canada while you sort out your email strategy under the new CASL regulations. To update your listings simply follow this link and login through your Dealers' Back Office. Click on Add Listings and flag the machines you would like to include in the August Edition. Don't miss out — deadline is close of business July 10.

If you would like to discuss the advantages of putting a display ad in our directory or have never advertised with Locator Services before, simply call Jim Bowman at 703-683-5957 or email JBowman@locatoronline.com. He would be happy to help you round out your sales and marketing strategy and discuss which products and services would work best for you.

NEW Canadian Spam Law, now in effect

The new law in Canada which affects all businesses that send emails to Canadian email addresses is now in effect. As we first reported in the May 29th MDNA Biweekly the new law is known as Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL)

This law is supposed to protect Canadians while continuing to ensure that businesses can compete in the global marketplace. This law applies to communications sent or accessed using computer systems located in Canada, and according to the American Bar Association, it also applies to our MNDA Members in the United States and elsewhere who send emails to Canada.

US manufacturing importing as many jobs as it exports, says group
    The Wall Street Journal
America is now luring as many factory jobs back from overseas — a process known as reshoring — as it's losing to continued offshoring. That's the assessment of the Reshoring Initiative, a Chicago-based nonprofit that encourages companies considering moving work back to the U.S.

Large majority of car manufacturing now in right-to-work states
    Washington Examiner
Even before Michigan passed a right-to-work law in 2012, U.S. car manufacturing was drifting south to places like Tennessee that had long had the law. A study shows just how far the shift has happened: An estimated 70 percent of domestic car and car parts manufacturing is now located in right-to-work states.

    INDUSTRY NEWS

States lure manufacturers and shore up jobs
    CNBC
It wasn't long ago that the thought of corporations bringing their manufacturing back to the U.S. seemed all but impossible. But that's precisely what's happening, and the trend is predicted to continue through the rest of the decade. Consider Kent International, one of the largest U.S.-based bicycle manufacturers.

How the Internet of Things is transforming manufacturing
    Forbes
The Internet of Things is changing manufacturing as we know it. Factories and plants that are connected to the Internet are more efficient, productive and smarter than their non-connected counterparts. In a marketplace where companies increasingly need to do whatever they can to survive, those that don’t take advantage of connectivity are lagging behind.

Local Motors wants to change the way America makes things. In fact, it already has. America is now luring as many factory jobs back from overseas — a process known as reshoring — as it's losing to continued offshoring. That's the assessment of the Reshoring Initiative, a Chicago-based nonprofit that encourages companies considering moving work back to the U.S. The group says 2013 was a turning point, with roughly 40,000 jobs added in the U.S. by the return of jobs that were previously moved offshore — equal to the number of jobs lost from the continued movement of work abroad.

Energy efficiency opportunities in the manufacturing sector
    Alan Kelsky
One third of the energy consumed in the United States is by the manufacturing sector. Ninety percent of the manufacturing sector are small- and medium-sized businesses, or SMM, that use about half of the energy consumed in manufacturing. Electrical demand, also known as on-site energy consumption is a rich target for SMM businesses as they tend to pay more per kWh than their larger competitors. With savings easy to come by, why have small- and medium-sized manufacturers been slow to jump on the savings bandwagon?

    Government R&D and manufacturing competitiveness
    The Hill
Both U.S. manufacturing jobs and output fell at an unprecedented rate in the last decade, contributing to both the financial crisis and the slow recovery we are facing today. But many assert that losing manufacturing is actually a good thing — evidence of a shift to advanced services. In fact, it is not. America needs manufacturing because manufactured goods are the largest part of our traded sector economy — that is, our industries that trade in global markets and that allow us to pay for the imported goods and services Americans rely on.
