3-D printing, robotics and the future of manufacturing
    eCommerce Times
Imagine a manufacturing floor making sophisticated products through the use of 3-D printers being overseen and fed by robots. That's a frightening scenario for the worker employed in manufacturing. In the face of this unfolding, never-before-witnessed scenario, the manufacturer must constantly be on the leading edge of technology and the worker must constantly update his or her skills. The potential of 3-D printing and robotics is nothing if not inspiring but it's difficult even to imagine the extent of the inroads they will make in our manufacturing base or the myriad of products they'll eventually produce.

    The most important employment documents
    By D. Albert Brannen
Employment litigation can be expensive and time-consuming. An employer’s success or failure in defending itself can turn on the law or the facts. Employers cannot do too much to change the law that applies to any given case. But, experience shows that employers can do a lot to shape the facts and to improve their position in employment litigation. Most of the time, this shaping of the facts depends on the documentation. Moreover, while the particular facts may be different from case to case, the same types of documents are at issue in nearly every employment law case.

Manufacturing in Philadelphia area grows more than forecast
    Bloomberg
Manufacturing in the Philadelphia region expanded more than forecast in July, the latest sign of an improving outlook for the industry after a slowdown earlier this year. The data follows figures that showed production climbed in the U.S. in June while manufacturing in the New York area expanded in July at the fastest pace in five months. Domestic demand is being bolstered by a pickup in automobile sales and a boost in capital spending as companies look past sequestration and global growth risks.

To give US manufacturing A boost, Maker's Row gets $1M from Index, Comcast, Alexis Ohanian and more
    TechCrunch
The emergence of vertically integrated e-commerce operations like Everlane and Flint and Tinder highlights how a new generation of startups is using entrepreneurial muscle for economic regeneration in the U.S. And the growth of these companies is a sign of how consumers are supporting this idea, too. New startup Maker's Row now wants to take this concept to a much wider audience. It has announcing a $1 million seed round to help build out a marketplace that will connect more U.S. manufacturers with small businesses that need to get things made.
