    Re-cap Chapter Event
    Ohio Valley/Cleveland Bourbon Trail
The Ohio Valley and Cleveland Chapter teamed up to host the Bourbon Trail Tour Chapter Event on Sept. 26-27, in Lexington, Kentucky. The dual chapter event was the brain child of Ohio Valley Chapter Chairwoman Melissa Engelhart, AEA, of Weld Plus, Inc. together with Cleveland Chapter's John Greene, of FL Sales Inc. Attendees toured 5 distilleries in two days. Everyone who attended had a great time. Attendee Bob Yeoman of Yeoman Machinery Corporation said that "it was my favorite memory of the 2014 summer." This was high praise coming from one of the people responsible for the successful Chicago Chapter/IMTS dinner event.

This event was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of:
    FL Sales, Inc.
    Portage Packaging Systems Inc.
    TDI Group LLC
    Weld Plus Inc.
World Equipment & Machine Sales Co.

    LOCATOR
Does my current customer or inventory management system support my marketing needs?
At Locator Services we get asked this question all the time. If you are using an in-house or legacy system the answer is probably "No." One of the many advantages of our Locator Customer & Inventory Management System™ is the ability to manage all of your advertising directly from the system itself. Whether you’re at your desk or on your smart phone you can make sure your inventory data is fed directly to your website, to LocatorOnline.com, or any other website you designate for advertising. If you're worried about converting your data don't be. Simply export your customer and inventory data to us and let Locator import it into your CIMS system prior to deployment. Think about this, now you can take a picture of the machine in your warehouse, upload it to your inventory record via your phone and then designate it for advertising directly from your CIMS system on your phone! Before you’ve even left the warehouse potential buyers are viewing the same machine you just photographed because it's already been posted to your website and to LocatorOnline.com! Ever been offsite and suddenly realized you forgot to advertise your new inventory items before leaving the office? No worries, now you can do that from your phone! Since CIMS is web based it goes wherever you go so simply pull up those records and flag them for advertising.

You owe it to your business to take the necessary steps this and make sure you have a cutting edge system that supports your marketing efforts as much as you support your customers.

If you are still using an in-house application or older technology system and would like to migrate to a newer state of the art system simply call Jim Bowman at 703-683-5957 or email JBowman@locatoronline.com. He would also be happy to schedule an online demonstration of the software for you at your earliest convenience. MDNA members may qualify for a 10 percent discount!

Manufacturing tours put a shine on blue collar work
    Houston Chronicle
Over the past few years, the shortage of trained welders, machinists and other skilled workers has brought together a broad coalition to boost the appeal of blue-collar work. High schools are reinvesting in vocational training after years of putting money behind SAT training and college prep; trade unions are hosting open houses to promote their apprenticeship training schools; and manufacturers are opening their doors for tours.

US manufacturing: A remembrance and a look ahead
    NPR
U.S. manufacturing is booming. Customers everywhere want our aircraft, electrical equipment, engines, metal products, chemicals and much more. So in dollar terms, output is at record levels — worth more than $2 trillion. Back in 1964, remembered as a glorious time in our industrial history, factories generated only about $1.3 trillion in inflation-adjusted dollars. Only two other rivals can play in the $2 trillion ballpark: China, which has about four times as many people, and the entire European Union, with more than a half-billion people in 28 countries.

    The Wall Street Journal
Manufacturing wages are rising at a rapid clip in some major industrial states as shortages of certain skills and gradually falling unemployment rates force more companies to pay up to attract and retain workers. Although manufacturing wages on a nationwide basis are still rising slowly — and they lag behind the average increases for all private-sector workers — they are growing faster than overall wages in certain states.

Cheap natural gas lifts US manufacturing
    Financial Times
Cheap natural gas has delivered a significant boost to US manufacturing exports, the International Monetary Fund has found. Advances in shale rock drilling have led to a sharp rebound in U.S. gas production, driving prices in the U.S. to a steep discount to markets in Europe and Asia.

Report: Manufacturing offers solid careers for women
    Crain's Cleveland Business
The factors young women are looking for in a job align closely with the benefits offered by manufacturing, according to a study done by Women in Manufacturing, along with Plante Moran. According to a news release, the women surveyed said compensation was the most important factor they were looking for in a career, followed by whether that career was challenging or interesting. The report also surveyed women currently working in manufacturing, half of whom cited compensation as a big benefit to working in the industry. And more than 80 percent reported that their work is interesting or challenging.
