    Veterans Day

Today, Nov. 11, we observe Veterans Day, a day to honor and celebrate all men and women who have served our country in the Armed Forces. President Wilson first called for a celebration of Armistice Day to mark the ceasefire that led to the end of World War I at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918. President Eisenhower changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.

Today and always, MDNA is proud to stand with all Americans in thanking those who served in the military in defense of the everyday freedoms that we enjoy. And we are especially proud of our MDNA family members, including our own staff, who have put on the military uniform for the United States of America.

Chinese outsourcing may lead to textile resurgence in Carolinas
    By Stephanie McKenzie
North and South Carolina were once the center of the American textile industry. This changed completely by the late 1990s, when the textile mills closed, moving their operations overseas where labor and raw materials were cheaper. Many of the textile companies went to China. The mills closed, and thousands of people who had worked in them for years were out of jobs. Now, in a great twist of irony, the textile industry is coming back to the Carolinas. China is now outsourcing to the United States.

Future US manufacturing jobs will require more brain than brawn

India vs. China: The battle for global manufacturing
    Bloomberg Businessweek
With its chronic blackouts, crumbling roads and other infrastructure woes, India should have no appeal for John Ginascol. A vice president at Abbott Laboratories, Ginascol is responsible for ensuring that the company's food-products factories run smoothly worldwide. He can't afford surprises when it comes to electricity, water, and other essentials. "People like me," he says, "dream of having existing, good, reliable infrastructure." Yet Abbott has just opened its first plant in India, and Ginascol says there haven't been any nightmares so far.

Factories spur US growth as world markets cool
    Bloomberg
Manufacturing advanced in October at a faster pace than projected, indicating persistent domestic demand is keeping order books full and allowing U.S. factories to withstand slower global markets. The Institute for Supply Management's factory index increased to 59 in October, matching August as the highest since March 2011, after 56.6 the prior month, the group's report showed. Readings above 50 indicate expansion.

HP's new 3D printer is aimed at manufacturing, not consumers
    Computerworld
Hewlett-Packard has no plans to take its new industrial 3-D printer into the desktop market for consumers, but it will likely scale the machine to take on large production parts. Recently, HP unveiled its Multi Jet Fusion 3-D printer, saying when the device ships in 2016 it will enable production of parts with a technology traditionally reserved for rapid prototyping.
