MDNA GRABS ATTENTION IN THE NEW BOOTH
MDNA was turning heads earlier in November at the 2015 FABTECH EXPO in Chicago with a new booth as they garnered sales leads for members and educated the public about the Association and what the members have to offer them.
Jim Bowman, who represented MDNA, said, "It was a great show, a good chance to educate the public about the benefits of used machinery and where to go when they are in the market to buy or sell their surplus equipment."
See which MDNA member firms were at the show!

What is the best Vertical Milling Machine I can Buy Today? Is a Bridgeport Milling Machine still the best?

The originator of the milling machine, Bridgeport Milling Machines, is a company often copied. They pretty much set the standard for the style and shape of the mills made today. Many of the import milling machines are almost exact copies of the… Read the full story here.

Mexico is accustomed to foreign direct investment. In 2014, Mexico received $22.6 billion in foreign direct investment, and the trend is continuing as companies from around the globe look to the country for cheap labor and low production costs. In recent months, several major American manufacturers have said they will move production facilities from U.S. soil to Mexico. But it's not just American companies who look to Mexico for cheap labor.
STEM education and the maker movement have flooded our nation's schools, making project-based learning much easier to mark off of the instructional "must do" checklist toward meeting new criterion and readying students for a career. Our school districts are feeling the pressure to be innovative and find new ways to engage students with technology while adhering to the newly implemented Common Core Standards and ensure students are prepared for what happens following graduation. The buzz phrase these days is "21st century skills" — and students must have them.
Manufacturing and corporate profits are both in recession mode, even though the rest of the U.S. economy continues to limp along. The latest confirmation of troubles came with the Empire State manufacturing index, a gauge of New York activity that clearly shows contraction in the sector. The November reading of -10.74 was actually a modest improvement improvement over October's -11.36, but reflects a decline that began in September 2014, when the measure peaked at a 27.54, at that point the highest since October 2009. The numbers represent the percentage change in conditions from the previous month.
