US manufacturing PMI rose in November
    FinFacts
At 54.3, the Markit Flash U.S. manufacturing PMI — which is based on approximately 85 percent of usual monthly survey replies — rose to an eight-month high in November. This was up from a one-year low of 51.8 in October. Meanwhile, the three-month average of the PMI, which gives an indication of the underlying trend, was at 52.9, consistent with an ongoing modest improvement in manufacturing business conditions.

Intel looking for more contract manufacturing
    Reuters
Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said he would expand his company's small contract manufacturing business, paving the way for more chipmakers to tap into the world's most advanced process technology. With Intel far behind rivals in making chips for smartphones and tablets, many on Wall Street have urged the company to expand its contract manufacturing business, which currently contributes little to its overall revenue, and to open its factories to high-volume clients making mobile processors.

Beyond insurance: How to protect both the business and personal assets
By David B. Mandell, JD, MBA, and Jason M. O'Dell, MS, CWM
In our litigious society, business owners, as well as their companies, are high-visibility lawsuit targets. Lawsuits and claims from employees, customers, competitors and even the government are part of doing business today — in virtually every field, including manufacturing. However, as we will explore in this article, insurance policies have their limitations and drawbacks. Moreover, there are other techniques that can be explored to shield and build wealth and often save taxes. If you are interested in learning how to shield your business and personal assets while also reducing taxes and building wealth, please read on.

Tax proposal for an economy no longer rooted in manufacturing
    The New York Times
A tax proposal released by the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus, addresses a topic that tends to make eyes glaze over: cost recovery. Cost recovery is a technical topic but one that may shape our economic future, because it affects the calculations of every business manager making a decision about what projects to pursue and what assets to buy.

Shoelaces shine a spotlight on American manufacturing
    PSFK
Led by Jake Bronstein, founder and CEO of made-in-America brand Flint and Tinder, the Bluelace Project aims to create more awareness and build a stronger support for American-made products by making blue laces the symbol for American manufacturing. The project creators hope to make the blue-colored laces a symbol that is comparable to the yellow ribbon symbolizing support for the US troops. To "lace up blue" lets U.S. retailers know that consumers are supportive of US-made products. To "lace up blue" also lets manufacturers know that consumers still appreciate their work.
