    Throughout this bull market, social media stocks, the big online retailers like Amazon.com and health care companies seem to have garnered most of the attention in the financial press. As impressive as their performances have been, one sector has quietly flown under the radar this year and now ranks among the leaders in the Standard & Poor's 500 index. The industrials — manufacturers of stuff — rank third among the 10 S&P sectors this year with a 32.9 percent stock price gallop.

    Effort focuses on manufacturing training for veterans
    Insider Indiana Business
    Through the support of Alcoa Foundation and other partners, a statewide coalition in Indiana is launching "Get Skills to Work," a program that includes training to help veterans transition to rewarding careers in manufacturing. The program brings together manufactures and educators. Indiana and Illinois are the first states to announce statewide support for the program on behalf of our nation's veterans.

    How to use mind-controlled robots in manufacturing, medicine

    VideoBrief University at Buffalo researchers are developing brain-computer interface devices to mentally control robots. UB research relies on a relatively inexpensive, non-invasive external device. It reads EEG brain activity with 14 sensors and transmits the signal wirelessly to a computer, which then sends signals to the robot to control its movements. Here, researchers show how a simple set of instructions can be combined to execute more complex robotic actions. Such robots could be used by factory workers to perform hands-free assembly of products or carry out tasks like drilling or welding.
