The Daytona Beach News-Journal    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Like that scrumptious bag of chips dangling behind the vending machine glass, refusing to fall, the promised economic recovery is teasing Manuel Barrios. "But it's like starting an engine that sputters a little and you think it's going to run, then it stalls and stops." More

Cold competition
Boston Globe    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Competition is brewing in the latest frontier of the java wars: iced coffee. Dunkin' Donuts recently rolled out its Iced Dunkin' Dark Roast to undercut its biggest rivals. And McDonald's intends to launch new blended coffee iced drinks and smoothies this summer. The new drinks show how competitive the coffee wars have gotten as chains that have increasingly tried to one-up one another attempt to take advantage of coffee drinkers’ growing affinity for having the beverage served over ice. A Chicago-area couple started Healthy U to do that; the company operates vending machines filled only with certified-organic or 100 percent natural products. "The motivation was my kids and sometimes when they're at schools and we're not there, they don't have the best choices," said Hephner, Healthy U Vending.

Fast Company    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
