The basic concept behind vending machines has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Money goes in and a snack — be it a candy bar, can of soda or bag of chips — comes out. But a new generation of machines that was on display recently at UNLV is looking to bring vending technology into the 21st century by adding interactive, environmentally friendly and social features. Brokers: Brazil's coffee discount widens as new crop nears

Buyers of coffee from Brazil, the world's largest producer, are getting a bigger discount for beans as the new-crop harvest approaches, brokers said. Fine cup beans for May and June shipment are trading at a discount of 8 cents a pound to the price on ICE Futures U.S. in New York, data from Rio de Janeiro-based broker Flavour Coffee showed. Massachusetts House backs bill to cap vending machine license fee hikes

A state budget amendment that would cap increases in the annual license fee for vending machines passed the House recently. Filed by Rep. Shaunna O'Connell, R-Taunton, the amendment to the House's proposed $32.4 billion fiscal 2013 budget would prevent the state Department of Public Health from raising the fee more than 100 percent in a calendar year. The state legislator proposed the cap as an end-run around the DPH's plan for a 567 percent hike in the fee from $3 per machine to $20. More

According to a new survey by business management software provider Sage North America, 40 percent of small businesses surveyed in the U.S. and Canada do not use an outside accountant.
