USA Technologies expands "JumpStart" cashless vending program

USA Technologies, Inc. announced the expansion of its JumpStart cashless vending program. In addition to the ePort EDGE terminal, the Company is adding the ePort G8 terminal to the JumpStart program, and giving customers the option of participating in both the traditional 'no purchase' plan and a new 'GoBo' (Get One, Buy One) plan option which enables customers to receive hardware devices free of charge if they commit to purchasing the same number of devices by December 31, 2010. More

Initiative to boost production of specialty coffee

In a new, multi-billion dollar project, a consortium of U.S.-based specialty coffee roasters and agricultural researchers have partnered up with the in partnership with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) to form the Global Coffee Quality Research Initiative (GCQRI). The goal of the new association, which was set up at a recent SCAA symposium, held in Long Beach, California, is to increase the production of existing specialty coffee, and also research new cup qualities in a scientific approach. Starbucks takes a shot at McDonald's—With Seattle's Best

With McDonald's experiencing a fair amount of success with its McCafé coffee brand—one analyst estimates that the company sold about $1.5 billion in coffee last year—Starbucks could no longer sit on the sidelines. Recently it announced that it would sell one of the premium brands it owns—Seattle's Best Coffee—in Burger King and Subway restaurants, at AMC movie theaters and at supermarkets and coffeehouses across the country, with 30,000 locations in all. The company won't admit that McCafé played a part in its decision to expand Seattle's Best, a former rival that Starbucks purchased in 2003, which has sat quietly in 500 Borders bookstore locations over the past few years. In this idyllic town on the north slope of Mount Hood, an autopsy on three dead rainbow trout may play a role in Nestlé SA's efforts to reverse a deep slide in its bottled-water business. Bottled water, which for years delivered double-digit growth for Nestlé, is under fire from environmentalists. They decry the energy used to transport it and the use of billions of plastic bottles, and oppose efforts to use new springs, citing concerns about water scarcity. More
