Java drinkers rest easy. New York Sen. Charles Schumer has perked up to the spiraling cost of coffee beans and he wants something done about it. The national soft drink industry is pumping a lot of money into the Initiative 1107 campaign, which would roll back a Washington state tax on soda and bottled water. As the Tacoma News Tribune reports, a Washington, D.C., based industry group called the American Beverage Association recently injected another $4.2 million into the campaign, bringing total I-1107 contributions to $14.4 million. If the I-1107 campaign spends all that money, it would set a record for initiative spending in Washington state. More
