As 2011 comes to a close, the National Automatic Merchandising Association would like to wish its members, partners and other industry professionals a safe and happy holiday season. Pepsi vending machines fuse social and mobile commerce

From May 4, 2011: Pepsi has introduced beverage vending machines that encourage mobile consumers to partake in random acts of refreshment. The "social vending" system lets people buy their friends a soda using touch screens. At a basic level, the screen enables regular purchasing. In beverage gifting instances, it will include a keyboard to type in the recipient's mobile phone number, name, and a personalized message. The machine also has a built-in camera so buyers can include a video as part of their gifting message. More

From Nov. 9, 2011: Architect Peter Herman and graphic designer Daren Bascome are the cofounders of the asymmetrical coffee cup, called Compleat. One day, Herman, 49, a dedicated coffee drinker, crumpled an empty paper cup in his hand and saw that by folding the top into an arc, and losing the lid entirely, he had a simple, enclosed cup with a drinking spout. Now, his invention folds like origami to form a spout from which to drink. More
