Organized by the Public Employees Roundtable, of which NARFE is a member, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is a time to honor federal, state, county and local government employees. “This week is a celebration of the millions of individuals who proudly serve our nation. Their presence is felt in every community, in ways both small and large, and we cannot thank them enough,” said NARFE President Richard G. Thissen in a press release expressing support for Public Service Recognition Week, which opened on May 7. Visit the PSRW website to find out what you can do to recognize and appreciate those in the federal community. NARFE salutes its members, and all federal employees and retirees, for their service and contributions to our country.

Keen will take questions during a one-hour bonus Q&A session following the webinar.

Every year since 1985, seven days in May have been designated as Public Service Recognition Week, a time to honor federal, state and local government employees and acknowledge the many benefits they provide to the American public.
While leaders in the private sector are lauded as running "best places to work" for their efforts to recruit, develop and recognize employees, public servants are seldom given the recognition they deserve for their efforts.

There are a few good things about turning 65. In some states, people who are 65 or older don’t have to serve on a jury. Or have their car emissions checked. If things get worse with North Korea or Iran and they bring back the draft, those 65 and older will be the last called up.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has an ambitious long-term outlook for how it might dramatically expand the medical services it delivers to veterans through telehealth. As of now, though, many of those plans are technically illegal because of state by state medical licensing requirements, and the department says that needs to change.
The VA is already regarded as a national leader in telehealth.

What do you do when it’s time to add or change your benefits because of a life event such as a marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or the death of a family member?

Kudos if you’ve already incorporated whole grains into your regular diet: Among other benefits, eating more of these fibrous foods has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. One reason may be because whole grains are good sources of lignans, antioxidant-rich compounds also found in seeds, legumes and other plant sources. But if you’ve taken an antibiotic recently, you may not be benefiting from all the good-for-you nutrients that whole grains can provide.

A lawn care company can offer services from basic mowing to shrub trimming or spraying for insects. Steve Bernas, president and chief executive officer of the Chicago Better Business Bureau, said lawn service companies have evolved over the years.
