I understand that, because of the Affordable Care Act, FEHBP family coverage now extends to children up to age 26. If I am covered under his enrollment, what will happen to my enrollment? More

Economist: Sequestration could hit Washington area with recession
Government Executive    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Washington metropolitan area could see a devastating recession from federal cuts associated with sequestration, an economist is warning. Sequestration — across-the-board cuts to the federal budget that will take effect in January if lawmakers can't agree on an alternative — would result in major job cuts in Washington, Northern Virginia and Maryland, according to Stephen Fuller, director of the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University, who spoke to WTOP.com. Fit over-50s are lowering heart disease odds
University College London via Medical Xpress    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Even a moderate increase in exercise when you are in your 50s can help your heart health, according to a study published by researchers from University College London Epidemiology and Public Health. The study shows inflammation in the body — which is thought to contribute to heart disease — remains lower in people in the transition to retirement who embrace an active lifestyle, with at least 2.5 hours a week of moderate physical activity (enough to raise your heart rate), than in those who stay less active. This is great news for retirees, who often celebrate their new-found freedom with a whole range of activities, from gardening to do-it-yourself projects to countryside walks. More

In fact, an optimistic, positive attitude is perhaps the greatest factor that will determine your chances for success. More

For many boomers, retirement age is a moving target
The Kansas City Star    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Just how much the Great Recession reshaped what many baby boomers thought retirement would look like is becoming clearer: More than ever, they now expect to retire later or work when they're "retired."
