Portuguese power station faces decomissioning and demolition

A major decommissioning/demolition project will start in Barreiro, Portugal, in the first quarter of 2011 with the removal of a 1970s vintage oil fired power station, owned and operated by Energias de Portugal (EDP), which has already been replaced by a modern cogeneration (CHP) power station on the same site. It operated from 1977 until 2009, and was EDP's largest thermal cogeneration power plant. More

Private nonresidential construction spending slips in August

In a sign that the construction industry is mired in its own recession, private nonresidential construction spending slipped 1.4 percent in August, according to the Oct. 1 report by the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, private nonresidential construction spending is down 24.2 percent compared to the same time last year. However, total nonresidential construction spending – which includes both privately and publicly financed construction – was up 0.6 percent for the month but down 13.6 percent on a year-over-year basis. The first New Holland E485B Demolition high reach to be supplied into Italy has been working on the demolition of a building complex at via Selva Candida in the outskirts of Rome. Built at a cost of several billion Lira, the complex was originally intended to become the headquarters of Italian national airline Alitalia, but was never actually completed and has now been brought down. New York attorney says demolition workers at risk of inhaling asbestos

One of the main ways that American workers are exposed to toxic asbestos is during demolition and remodeling projects involving older buildings, and a recent New York Labor Department order underscores the danger of unauthorized asbestos removal, New York attorney Joseph W. Belluck said. Currently, an estimated 1.3 million construction and general industry workers are being exposed to asbestos, according to a recent estimate by researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Riverside Engineering schedules accelerated installation of upstate shredding's mega shredder

Riverside Engineering, San Antonio, has announced that it will begin installation of its model M-122 auto shredder at Upstate Shredding LLC in Owego, N.Y., in late November. In a press announcement, Riverside says the initial phase of the installation is scheduled to occur over eight days, with Riverside's staff working 24-hours per day in shifts to complete the project as quickly as possible.
