The waiting time to obtain a visa in some countries can be up to 100 days, according to the U.S. Travel Association, and travelers who do not live in or near a city with an American consulate may have to spend hundreds of dollars in travel expenses for mandatory face-to-face interviews. We've all been there: trapped in pointless meetings where participants are afraid to speak honestly. We twiddle our thumbs through diplomatic PowerPoint presentations, waiting for the meeting to end so that the real conversations — which usually happen in private — can begin. Average leaders focus on results, and that's it. Good leaders focus also on the behaviors that will get the results. And great leaders focus, in addition, on the emotions that will drive these behaviors. One emotion that shapes our behavior is anger, and Martin Luther King Jr. knew of the power that came packed in this emotion. Great leaders do not ignore their anger, nor do they allow themselves to get consumed by it. Instead, they channel the emotion into energy, commitment, sacrifice and purpose. Taxation imbalance helps Las Vegas compete for Chinese New Year's traffic Vegas Inc Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Why would an Asian high roller travel to the Strip to celebrate the lunar new year rather than visit the ultrachic gambling salons of Asia's gaming giants? Much of the answer can be found in the effective tax rates on gross gaming rates in the world's three major gaming locales. It reaches 39 percent in Macau, China, and 20 percent in Singapore, yet is only 6.75 percent in Nevada. Quite simply, the big three casino operators in those markets — Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts — are able to keep a larger share of their winnings in Las Vegas, and that's incentive enough for them to attempt to steer Asia's biggest gamblers to the desert for the Chinese New Year.
