NJ lags nation in use of generic drugs, feds report

Seniors who get their medications through Medicare are less likely to receive a generic prescription in New Jersey than if they lived in most other states. That's what the numbers just released by Medicare show. They put New Jersey in the lowest 20 percent of states for dispensing generic drugs.

NJ ranks 5th nationwide in hospital safety
NJBIZ
New Jersey ranks fifth in the nation on the spring 2015 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score, which assigns grades from A to F to more than 2,500 hospitals nationwide on how well they protect patients from preventable harm such as accidents, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group graded 66 New Jersey acute care hospitals and 29, or 43.9 percent, got an A for safety. The four states with a higher percentage of A-rated hospitals are Maine, Massachusetts, Virginia and Florida.

2 big NJ hospital systems sign merger agreement to span 7 counties

Hackensack University Health Network and Meridian Health have completed a merger agreement that will create a health system that spans seven New Jersey counties, officials announced. The new company, renamed Hackensack Meridian Health, would run 11 hospitals from Bergen County to the Jersey Shore.
