Ovation Graphics announced the purchase of Fort Worth, Texas,-based Branch-Smith Printing, enabling the 101-year-old company to avoid liquidation and continue operations. Ovation announced the deal recently, but actually made the purchase in December, just as Branch-Smith was being forced into insolvency in a U.S. Bankruptcy Court by three paper suppliers, who claimed they were owed more than $1.1 million. The U.S. Postal Service has launched a new mobile application for iPhone users that allows them to use the device's camera to scan barcodes on shipping labels for quick, easy and convenient tracking of their packages and other mail. The application stores the label numbers so customers can easily recheck the status of their shipments. The scanner function is available on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad 2. More

A large number of manufacturers are simply not aware of the opportunities for efficiencies in their supply chains. The claim comes from a survey commissioned by DHL Supply Chain which found that just over half of companies expected to see a significant impact on profits from improving efficiency in the supply chain. One respondent said, "Supplier management has been the key challenge for us. We agree in board meetings that we need to improve our supply chain, but unfortunately it is always last on the priority list." More


Verso Paper completes $45 million renewable energy project at its pulp and paper mill

Verso Paper announced that the company has completed a $45 million renewable energy project at its pulp and paper mill in Quinnesec, Mich. The project includes design upgrades to the mill's existing combination boiler, a new biomass handling system and a new turbine generator. The project is delivering 28 megawatts of additional green energy for consumption within the mill, which is equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by 18,000 homes in a year. More
