Researchers improve weather forecast using GPS data

Using the GPS technology perfected by researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology is delivering forecasts of the same accuracy 10 hours earlier. They explained that the data from GPS and low-earth orbit satellites can improve real-time weather observations and help cross-calibration of instruments. The way the atmosphere affect GPS signals gives them information on important temperature profiles. More

Canada gets complete digital elevation dataset

Acquisition of the Canadian Digital Elevation Data, as part of GeoBase initiative, is now complete. The source digital data for CDED is extracted from the hypsographic and hydrographic elements of the National Topographic Data Base at scales of 1:50 000 and 1:250 000, or the Geospatial Data Base, or various scaled positional data acquired by the provinces and territories, or remotely sensed imagery. More
