Senior officials from the United States and Afghanistan met Dec. 12 to continue their trade dialogue and evaluate progress under the United States-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Framework Agreement. The officials discussed a wide range of investment climate issues including supporting Afghanistan's transition to a sustainable economy, market access, the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences, trade promotion efforts, intellectual property rights, sector-specific investment challenges and the New Silk Road vision. The New Silk Road envisions an international network of economic and transit connections. More

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has presented Congress with the 2011 annual report on China's compliance with its World Trade Organization accession obligations. The report is statutorily mandated by Congress and highlights the status of China's ongoing work in areas such as intellectual property rights, industrial policy, agriculture, services and transparency. President Obama today announced that Secretary John Bryson would join National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling as co-chair of the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy. The Office of Manufacturing Policy is part of the National Economic Council in the White House and works across federal government agencies to coordinate the execution of manufacturing programs and the development of manufacturing policy.
