Freightliner Custom Chassis, Enova to Develop All-electric Chassis

 Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. and Enova Systems announced that together they will enter into an all-electric commercial chassis development program that will include close collaboration and will involve the engineering and integration of Enova’s 120kW and 90kW all-electric drive system technologies into target FCCC chassis platforms, including the MT-45 walk-in van chassis.

NTEA Prevails in NHTSA EWR Effort - Industry Receives Significant Regulatory Relief

After a multi-year effort, the NTEA has succeeded in convincing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to provide the work truck industry with significant relief from the regulatory burdens associated with the Early Warning Reporting (EWR) rule. In a final rule published in the Sept. 17, 2009 Federal Register, NHTSA has agreed to the NTEA's requests and amended the applicability of the EWR’s comprehensive reporting requirements from manufacturers with an annual production level of 500 or more vehicles to 5,000 or more per year.

Housing Starts Rise to Nine-Month High

U.S. housing starts rose 1.5 percent to a nine-month high in August, the Commerce Department said Thursday.
Starts rose to an annual rate of 598,000 units, matching economists’ projections, Bloomberg reported.

Industrial Production Rises 0.8 Percent

Industrial production rose for a second straight month in August, gaining 0.8 percent, the Federal Reserve said.
The upturn in production at factories, mines and utilities followed a 1 percent increase in July that was more than previously forecast.
