Bill 7, introduced in the Honolulu City Council nearly two years ago, faces a final vote Dec. 16. Historic cottage becomes new B&B

The planning commission approved a conditional use permit for a bed and breakfast at the old historic yellow cottage Santa Monica, Calif., attaching a series of stipulations including limiting the days of business operation to no more than 182 in a calendar year and requiring a manager to check in on guests two hours in the morning and a pair in the afternoon. Study: Leisure travel still shaky in 2010

Leisure travel going into 2010 will continue to be shaky as issues — primarily money — plague travelers, according to a report by Ypartnership, an Orlando-based travel marketing and research firm. According to the firm's October 2009 survey of 2,200 U.S. adults, 53 percent of U.S. households are planning at least one leisure trip between now and April 2010. More

Tourism industry analysts say 1 million Americans could come to Cuba in the first year after travel restrictions are lifted, and even more after that. They won't all fit in the hotels and beach resorts owned by the Cuban government. Many would end up at places such as Alonso Miranda's apartment in Havana. Miranda charges visitors $45 a night for a private room with a private bathroom, a shower with hot water, a king-sized bed and a view to match. Miranda is one of many entrepreneurs in Havana with a casa particular, the Cuban version of a bed and breakfast. More
