Sequoia Helicopters has selected SKYTRAC Helicopter Flight Data Monitoring for its fleet of Bell 212 helicopters. With a focus on Oil & Gas, firefighting and tourism sectors, Sequoia was looking for a solution that could assist them with both proactive safety programs and cost-saving maintenance management.

Final assembly is well underway on the first full GE9X engine that will test in the first half of 2016, four years before the GE9X engine enters service on a Boeing 777X aircraft.
"Assembly of the first full GE9X engine is on track and coming together very nicely," said Bill Millhaem, general manager of the GE90/GE9X engine programs at GE Aviation.
Better batteries for electric aircraft are in the works, but it may be five years before we see significant improvements in energy density, according to a leading battery researcher at the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. Jeff Chamberlain, who heads the lab's Collaborative Center for Energy Storage Research Science, told AVweb in an exclusive interview that overpromising on battery capacity is a result of snake-oil salesmanship and overenthusiastic entrepreneurs. But the fact is, lithium ion batteries remain a difficult and challenging chemistry to improve.
Captain William Wilkerson and his wife, Tisa, have donated a 1952 Cessna 195 aircraft to the Aircraft Maintenance Technology program at Greenville Technical College. The plane will be used to enhance the hands-on training offered through the Federal Aviation Administration-approved program, which prepares students to become maintenance technicians.
The donated aircraft, valued at $78,900, was purchased by the Wilkersons in 1980.
A proposal to strip the Federal Aviation Administration of its power over the country's air-traffic control system and transfer those duties to a private entity has members of some aviation organizations concerned about the economic effect such a measure would have on businesses, noncommercial airports and rural communities.
Advocates of the proposal claim a private nonprofit or for-profit group controlling air traffic would generate a revenue stream to use for much-needed equipment upgrades.
With innovative MRO solutions offered by Rusada, Ramco, Swiss AS and Commsoft, aviation companies aren't exactly short of choice when it comes to IT systems for maintenance planning.
And airlines and MRO providers are leaning on such solutions more and more, in a bid to increase operational efficiency, maintenance processes and profit margins.

On a ramp at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, a crowd gathered around a small silver airplane. My 82-year-old father, Arnold Ebneter, called it the E-1, and he was confident that he was about to fulfill a 50-year-old dream: flying the E-1 nonstop for 2,328 miles to set a new world distance record. His airplane weighed exactly 1,102 pounds, just a few ounces short of the maximum allowed by the rules for the record, and carried only essentials: 59 gallons of fuel, two energy bars, and a quart of water.
