When Brittney Hoffman's 5-year old daughter grows up, she can work in whatever field she wants.
That's the message Hoffman is hoping to send as she splits her days between the Aviation Maintenance program at Haney Technical Center and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program at Gulf Coast State College, trying to break into a traditionally male workforce.
"I want to teach her that you can do anything, no matter what, and you can rock it," Hoffman said.
A former director of maintenance for now-defunct fractional provider Avantair pleaded guilty last week in U.S. District Court in Tampa, Florida, to obstructing a federal accident investigation after the July 28, 2012 in-flight loss of an elevator from one of the company's Piaggio P.180 Avantis near Camarillo, California. David Ernest Esteves admitted to intentionally hindering the NTSB and FAA investigations by instructing a contractor to remove parts from the aircraft involved after the incident and then power the airplane up, thereby erasing the cockpit voice recordings.

Peter Trobridge left behind a successful career in high tech in 2007, and was looking for a fresh challenge when a chance encounter on a golf course set him on a new path.
A mechanical engineering technologist by training, Peter started a conversation with a group of men at an Ottawa-area golf tournament who turned out to be volunteers for Project North Star, a program which helps the Canada Aviation and Space Museum to restore the lone surviving military Canadair C54-GM – also known as the North Star.

With air travel expected to double in the next 20 years, according to industry experts, the demand for all related occupations will soar. That's what officials at Atlanta Technical College were banking on when its decades-old aviation maintenance programs were upgraded seven years ago.
Most everyone in the aviation industry found something to hate in the "skinny budget" released by the Trump administration. EAA, NBAA, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and the Alliance for Aviation Across America all released statements opposing ATC privatization. EAA CEO & Chairman Jack J. Pelton in a written statement released said, "The Trump Administration released a budget proposal that confirms one of our greatest concerns regarding the future of U.S. general aviation: the potential separation of the FAA's Air Traffic Organization into an "independent, non-governmental organization."
North America is a net exporter of MRO services but that could be at risk based on limited fleet growth projections, availability of qualified technicians and economic uncertainties, including a potential backlash from anti-globalization political movements.
U.S. and Canadian authorities are rightfully spooked following a plane crash in Ontario, Canada. What's got them shook? There's absolutely no trace than anybody actually went down with the plane, sparking one of the weirdest mysteries of the year so far.
The alleged "ghost plane" was a rented Cessna 172 based out of Michigan, which went down into the snow near the north shore of Lake Superior around 11:30 p.m. near Marathon, Ontario, according to AVweb.com.
Erickson has received an order to build its first S-64 Aircrane in eight years.
The Portland-based aviation firm, whose manufacturing, maintenance and development operations are in Jackson County, is building an S-64E for the Korea Forest Service.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but in 2012 Erickson paid $21.75 million to reacquire an Aircrane it built for San Diego Gas & Electric Co., in 2009.
HAECO Corp. is confident that its money-losing Americas division is on the right track, as efficiency gains will help boost airframe MRO margins. while increasing demand and a new cabin-material supply contract with an unidentified OEM will pay medium-term dividends on the cabin sales side.
Caroline Morris was giggling so hard the 8-year-old could barely tell people how she felt about her first airplane flight at the Girls Fly event at Ocala International Airport.
"It was scary but awesome," Caroline managed to get out between laughs as local pilot and aviation writer Judie Betz helped unfasten the first-time flier's safety harness and earphones following a 15-minute introductory flight.
The flight reached an altitude of 2,000 feet and a cruising speed of about 120 mph. Caroline got to take the controls and turn the aircraft.
The anticipated rumble of 17 World War II B-25 Mitchell bombers will soar over Dayton, Ohio, next month to mark the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, officials said.
The airplanes are set to fly over Memorial Park at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at 2:30 p.m. April 18.
Two B-1B Lancer bombers from Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, will end the fly over, officials said.

There's a new G1000 in town, G1000 NXi. And while the name might imply a minor upgrade to the legendary flat-panel system, nothing could be further from the truth. NXi is a new ballgame.
Since its introduction a decade ago in the Cessna Citation Mustang and Skyhawk, Garmin's seminal flat-panel avionics suite has become the de facto standard in aircraft avionics, commanding a huge market share among owner-flown airplanes from two-seaters to light jets.
