Andre Nedeau wanted a retirement project, but what he found was a welcoming community at the Leesburg International Airport in Florida.
A member of Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 534, Andre recently hosted his fellow chapter members in his hangar to get an update on the project that is taking up a lot of his time.
From Ottawa, Canada, Andre lives in Florida in the winter to escape the cold climate of his native country.

Kansas State University Polytechnic in Salina said one of its aviation faculty members will receive national recognition next month.
Andrew Smith, professor of aviation maintenance management, was named the 2017 Ivan D. Livi Aviation Maintenance Educator of the Year by the Aviation Technician Education Council.
Thales has been selected by AirAsia for the equipment of avionics systems on their new fleet of 304 A320neos. The contract will also include a long-term Repair-By-The-Hour support agreement. Deliveries of the aircraft started in October 2016. Thales will equip the 304 single-aisles with its market leading Flight Management System (FMS)1, the navigation solution of choice for Airbus aircraft, alongside the THALES/ACSS T3CAS2 surveillance platform, the preferred solution for all Airbus single aisle aircraft.
Sixteen general aviation advocacy groups joined forces to express their concerns to leaders in the House and Senate about efforts to privatize air traffic control. The organizations cited a proposal promoted by some big airlines for the creation of a new governance and funding model for our nation's aviation system. "The general aviation community has very real and long-standing concerns, which include but are not limited to user fees," the letter states.
Honeywell is testing technologies such as blue-light surface scanning and wireless torque screwdrivers to improve MRO efficiencies and link processes to the Internet of Things for additional benefits. MRO Network found these technologies while touring the company's Phoenix repair facility.
Rockford Register Star
AAR Corp., which operates the AAR Rockford Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility at Chicago Rockford International airport, recently signed an agreement with India's largest airline, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., or IndiGo. AAR will provide support for landing gear overhaul services, including wheels and brakes.
Among the most common modifications in aviation today is equipping aircraft for satellite and other broadband connections to support both passengers and cockpits crew. Lufthansa Technik is now well under way in equipping hundreds of Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings and Germanwings narrowbodies with a Honeywell-Inmarsat Ka-band solution.
Duncan Aviation's Lincoln, Nebraska, facility was recently approved by Aruba's Department of Civil Aviation as an approved aircraft maintenance organization.
In addition to the FAA and this new Aruba certification, Duncan Aviation's locations in Lincoln; Battle Creek, Michigan; Houston, Texas; and Provo, Utah; hold certificates for 10 additional civil aviation authorities around the world.

South Korea's government and aviation industry are striving to boost the country's aircraft heavy maintenance sector, which could result in new facilities and the return of at least some work currently outsourced overseas. A government strategic objective is to increase maintenance, repair and overhaul operations in South Korea.
With a new cost-cutting budget proposal from President Donald Trump expected, general aviation advocates took the offensive and sent a letter to Congress asking them to protect funding for contract towers. NBAA, AOPA and eight other groups sent a letter to Congress asking them to fully fund the towers in the FAA appropriations bill for this year. President Trump's proposal is expected to include $54 billion in budget cuts and dramatically reduce the federal workforce, according to news reports from The Hill and The Washington Post.
