FreeFlight Systems will provide its certified RANGR ADS-B receivers to Avidyne customers.
Avidyne will bundle an IFD system and a ADS-B Outcapable Mode S transponder with FreeFlight Systems RANGR-RX ADS-B receiver to offer a complete ADS-B solution, company officials said.
The TSO-certified RANGR-RX provides pilots with ADS-B Flight Information Services Broadcast (FISB) and Traffic Information Services Broadcast (TISB) data on a number of preferred mobile EFB applications and installed multifunction displays like Avidyne’s IFD550/540/440 product line.
A bipartisan group of House lawmakers introduced another bill to address the looming aviation maintenance technician shortage, highlighting the attention the issue has before Congress. The bill, the Aviation Maintenance Workforce Development Pilot Program Bill (H.R.5701), is designed to encourage government, industry, and academia to work together to develop strategies to develop technical talent.
Legislation recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives seeks to create a program to bring more people into the aviation maintenance workforce. If it passes a House vote, the Aviation Workforce Development Pilot Program Bill, H.R. 5701, would provide grants of up to $500,000 for activities that support aviation maintenance workforce development.
Twenty aviation organizations including AOPA, GAMA and NATA have voiced their support for the bill in a letter to House leaders.
ASTM has developed a new international standard for ice detectors for GA aircraft. The detectors could be used to enhance pilot awareness of icing conditions and the standard was developed with the FAA's Non-Required Safety Enhancing Equipment policy in mind. The is designed to make safety-related equipment more accessible for small aircraft by eliminating most certification requirements and has mostly been used to install advanced avionics on legacy aircraft.
Legislation to establish an aviation maintenance workforce grant program took another step forward as a group of House representatives introduced the next iteration of the Senate bill.
The House bill, as in the Senate version introduced in March by Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), would create a program that would provide grants of up to $500,000 to support aviation maintenance workforce development.
To qualify for the funding, grants must be jointly submitted by a business or labor organization, school or government entity.
In the boom-and-bust world of aerospace manufacturing, Erickson Inc. is arguably in a boom cycle.
The global aviation firm, principally known for its Sikorsky S-64 aircrane helicopters, has seen its share of the downside over the past decade, but the reinvigorated company is keeping busy here and abroad.
Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SPR) today announced a definitive agreement to acquire S.R.I.F. N.V., the parent company of Asco Industries, N.V. (Asco), for $650 million in cash, subject to customary closing adjustments, including foreign currency adjustments. Asco is a leading supplier of high lift wing structures, mechanical assemblies and major functional components to major OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in the global commercial aerospace and military markets. Spirit expects to finance the acquisition through new debt.
According to author Peter Garrison: Writing last month's Aftermath column about a fatal accident that resulted from the pilot's mishandling of a balked landing, I reflected that I had never assessed the behavior of my own airplane in that maneuver. As I have said before, my idea of flight testing is to take trips and wait for something strange to happen, and as luck would have it, I have never yet had a balked landing in Melmoth 2.
