Survey shows support for scalable repair station SMS rule

Tying a potential repair station safety management system mandate to specific criteria, such as work performed on transport category aircraft, could be an acceptable alternative to a broad rule covering all FAA-certified facilities, a survey of MRO executives suggests. The survey, conducted by St. Louis University's Center for Aviation Safety Research, generated about 440 responses from repair stations of all sizes, including some foreign facilities.

EASA approves more than 140 FlightSafety maintenance courses under TNA Regulation 1149 2011

FAA Approves AD Free Overhauls

Wisconsin rejects tax exemption on maintenance and mods

Wisconsin MROs have once again been foiled in their attempt to get the state legislature to exempt private aircraft maintenance and modification from the 5.5 percent state sales tax. While the tax does not apply to aircraft operated under Part 121 or 135 certificates, it does apply to those operating under Part 91.

FAA clears drones for civilian use

Regulators launch fire safety initiative

The potential risks fire poses to passenger aircraft has been placed center stage in an awareness raising campaign by the United States Federal Aviation Administration and the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority. The safety drive includes a short video that has just been released, identifying the specific maintenance risks that may cause onboard fires, such as dust accumulation and faulty electrical wiring.

Auto-tech school gets a reflash after 40 years

Automotive apprentices have been coming to Toronto-based Centennial College for decades to learn in its School of Transportation's expansive car and truck labs. A massive new Ashtonbee Campus building opened adjacent to the former VW building in 1973. The labs were generously sized to accommodate large trucks and buses, and even included a hangar — but no runway — to house a number of donated aircraft for aviation technicians-in-training to work on.
