Work to potentially return Ethiopian Airlines' stranded Boeing 787 to service appear to have got underway at London's Heathrow Airport. Although the cause of the July 12 incident has not yet been disclosed by U.K. air accident investigators, contractors have begun assembling scaffolding frames around the aircraft in preparation for work on the aircraft which was damaged by fire hours before it was due to leave for Addis Ababa.

Honeywell nearing launch of touchscreen-enabled avionics

Honeywell is close to announcing customers for a new line of touchscreen-enabled avionics for the next-generation air transport and business aviation cockpits. Although development work continues and the company has not yet announced specific touchscreen components or the platforms involved, a logical fit for the airline market would be a center console touchscreen display using resistive touch technology for Embraer's E2 upgrade for the E-170/E-190 regional jet families.

Helicopter Foundation International is offering several scholarships in an effort to bolster the ranks of rotary-wing commercial pilots and maintenance technicians. The application window closes Nov. 30. Full details and applications are available at the website. "Helicopter Foundation International has long recognized the need for qualified commercial helicopter pilots and helicopter maintenance technicians," the organization said on its website.

FAA Approves AD Free Overhauls

C&D Associates announces FAA approval for relief from combustion heater Airworthiness Directives AD2004-21-05 (imposed on Janitrol B series) and AD81-09-09 (for South Wind/Stewart Warner.) United Airlines signs up for Harris-FAA NextGen Avionics program

United Airlines has pledged to use digital avionics equipment as part of the Federal Aviation Administration's air traffic modernization initiative, for which Harris Corp. serves as the prime contractor. The goal of the FAA's NextGen Data Communications Integrated Services program is to integrate data and voice messaging communications between air traffic controllers and pilots, Harris said recently.

Resilience Capital Partners acquires Avionics International Supply

Private equity firm Resilience Capital Partners said it has acquired Avionics International Supply Inc. of Denton, Texas. Resilience Capital said did not what it paid for Avionics International Supply, which is a wholesale distributor of avionics and aviation parts and provides maintenance, repair and calibration services for avionics test equipment. Resilience Capital said the acquired company will be part of its API platform.

Helicopter donated to Northern Lights College aircraft maintenance program
