GE Aviation assembled the 1,000th GEnx engine, just a mere five years after the first production engine was built at GE's Durham, North Carolina.
"The GEnx was the fastest selling engine in GE's history, and now it is the fastest production ramp up of a GE widebody engine program," said Tom Levin, general manager of the GEnx/CF6 engine product lines at GE Aviation.

The British Airways chairman is to open a £3.3m extension to a university's aerospace centre later.
It is hoped the University of South Wales' development will further strengthen the industry in Wales, which employs more than 23,000 people.
Engineering students in Treforest, Rhondda Cynon Taff, will get a chance to work on a military jet inside a new hangar, repair aircraft and use an aircraft simulator.

MTU Aero Engines will have a stake in the LM6000-PF+, the latest version of General Electric's LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine series. Germany's leading engine manufacturer has taken a 13-percent work share as a risk- and revenue-sharing partner in the development and production of this industrial gas turbine, which is derived from the CF6 aircraft engine.

FLYING
Quicksilver Aircraft, which recently launched the LSA qualified Sport 2SE, is shutting down its production facility in Temecula, California. Quicksilver's president Will Escutia told Flying sales have dropped 25 percent in the past year from a level he described as already being at a "breaking point."
The company has produced more than 15,000 ultralights and LSAs over its 42-year history.

Aircraft maintenance engineering students at Manitoba's Red River College can now train on a $1-million Jetstream aircraft that was donated.
The British Aerospace Jetstream 31 aircraft and associated equipment, manuals and training aids were donated by the Swanberg family, which ran Swanberg Air based in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

It's a deepening mystery that probably will only lead to more questions than answers as we try to get to the bottom of the case of a stolen Piper Cub by an absconder that can only be described as, well, "skinny."
YouTube poster Gizmo brought us the creepy video of Mr. Skeltal, a decent-enough pilot by the looks of it, who took his plane on a joyride the other day without permission, even though the offending skeleton is "scared to death of flying."

Redbird Flight Simulations has partnered with Tempus Training Solutions to operate the Redbird Proflight Academy at its Skyport FBO in San Marcos, Texas. Tempus will continue training pilots there under FAA Part 61 and 141. The move allows Redbird to devote more of its resources to research and development, while continuing to use the training center as a testbed for its line of simulators.

When a retired Lutheran minister and pilot from Moorhead, North Dakota, approached a milestone mark of flights designed to get kids interested in flying, he wanted it to be a special one.
"I just love kids and love to fly," said Wilbur Fisher, age 83, a pilot for more than 40 years.
So, for his 800th Young Eagles flight, Fisher had a "real deserving" teenager with him in the cockpit of his Cessna 172.

Dassault Aviation received FAA STC approval for its "Select II" avionics upgrade for the Falcon 900A/B that brings next-generation air traffic management functions to these legacy trijets. The upgrade, which is expected to earn EASA approval early next year, includes ADS-B OUT, Fans 1/A and LPV.
It also replaces existing CRT flight displays with more powerful and reliable LCD displays designed to support electronic moving maps, electronic charts, XM weather maps and other new cockpit features.
