Honeywell Aerospace is making it easier for maintenance personnel to get important data on and off the aircraft wirelessly to save time and costs. New solutions for Honeywell's Primus Epic and Primus 1000/2000/SPZ integrated cockpits offer simple-to-upgrade hardware and software that will increase operators' efficiency, and enable new mobile application for maintenance personnel and pilots.
Not to be eclipsed by recent news from the Signature Flight Support side of the company's planned acquisition of Landmark Aviation, BBA Aviation Aftermarket Services has some noteworthy announcements of its own, headlined by greatly expanded service and repair capabilities for aircraft in the field.
Building on last year's successful debut of the "Thrill of the Build" display on the show floor, in which NBAA attendees watched as BBA Aviation technicians performed a full overhaul on a PT6, the program will return for NBAA 2015.
A new aircraft mechanic school is coming to Bethel, Alaska. The program's main goal is to cater to the region's needs and create jobs that help make that possible.
Everything for the program — from the fleet of bush planes to the exams — are ready. All that's needed is a full classroom.
The aviation maintenance school's approximately 700-square-foot hangar is filled with ready-to-go toolboxes, old plane engines and an electrical switchboard.

Sandel, a name from the avionics world you might not be intimately familiar with, has unveiled a retrofit cockpit for the King Air 200 that is as noteworthy for the capabilities it packs inside as it is for its unusual pricing strategy.
The new Sandel Avilon avionics system includes four large LCD flight displays, two smaller data entry touch screens, radios, flight management computers, dual AHRS, audio panel, ADS-B-compliant Mode S transponder, and flight director/autopilot (minus the autopilot servos, which are retained).

A shortage of pilots in the aviation industry means a rosy outlook for college students and recent graduates.
The demand for pilots started rising several years ago as military veterans flying commercially started seeking retirement, leaving a void in the industry for the next generation of pilots to fill, said Jeffrey Baldwin, USU senior lecturer for aviation technology. Another factor at play has been a tightening of Federal Aviation Administration regulations in recent years, he added.
Whisper Prop, the ultra-quiet, low-vibration King Air propeller system from BLR Aerospace, is gaining market share and growing in popularity.
Ten Whisper Prop systems have been sold for King Air 90, 200 and 350 aircraft, according to BLR vice president of sales and marketing Dave Marone.
"The jury is in," Marone said. "Whisper Prop is incredibly smooth and quiet providing a step change in cabin comfort."

As he travels the state on business, Bill Perry relies on his pilot's license and small plane to squeeze time into his busy schedule.
Perry, chief executive of West Palm Beach, Florida-based law firm Gunster, owns a four-seat Cessna 182 that he often flies to his firm's offices in Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa and Tallahassee.
"It takes me about two hours to fly to Tallahassee," Perry said. "If I had to drive, it would take me seven and a half hours. And if I were to fly commercially, I wouldn't be able to get up and back in the same day."
Honeywell Aerospace launched a new Mechanical Protection Plan for the Gulfstream G200 and Bombardier Challenger 604/605. With the new plans, Gulfstream and Bombardier operators will have coverage for components on their environmental and cabin control systems, reducing maintenance time and costs.
Under the terms of the new Mechanical Protection Plans, operators can get parts shipped to any Honeywell AOG supplier within four to 24 hours, making maintenance costs predictable.
Looking more like a high-tech fighter than a light plane designed for private use, the Valkyrie from Cobalt aircraft has just been launched. With a canard front wing, sleek aerodynamic shape and a turbocharged 350 hp engine, the new Valkyrie is claimed to be capable of traveling at speeds of up to 260 knots (or 300 mph) and has capacity for up to five adults and their luggage.
