|Highlight: PAMA member hosts exhibit at 2017 Aviation & Transportation Career Expo
On Nov. 10, 2017, the DFW hosted the 2017 Aviation & Transportation Career Expo. Countless aviation and aviation maintenance organizations exhibited and participated. The event also drew approximately 1,500 students, all eager to learn about possible futures and careers in the aviation industry.
Roger Sickler, representing the PAMA DFW Chapter and PAMA National, hosted the PAMA exhibit just as he has done for a decade. PAMA thanks Roger and all our representatives across the national.
Quoting Roger, "You hear a lot of negatives about our younger generation but if the kids that come here are an example of the future generation we have nothing to fear."
Embraer Executive Jets has selected Aero Baires as its first authorized service center in Argentina. Aero Baires is based at Aeródromo de San Fernando (FDO) in Buenos Aires. Argentina's local aeronautical authority, Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC), certified the service center for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300.
Responding to reports from the industry, Cincinnati-based Airline Ground Schools is now offering an Aircraft Electrician Certificate. This relatively short course is fully accredited by NCATT (National Center for Aerospace Technology and Training) and ASTM (American Standards Training and Materials).
A research team from the Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence has released a report concluding drones that collide with large manned aircraft can cause more structural damage than birds of the same weight for a given impact speed.

Just introduced is the BINGO Fluid Detector, which provides an indication of fluid presence or absence, giving pilots a better fuel management tool, according to officials with Radiant Technology, also known as Belite Electronics.
It is typically installed at the point in the tank where the pilot wants to be alerted. For instance, at one-quarter tank remaining, company officials note.
MRO spending is moderately pro-cyclical. That is, when economies and traffic decline, MRO spending tends to decline more sharply. And the happy converse is also true. When times are good, MRO spending increases a bit more than traffic.
2018 is shaping up as a very good year. The consultancy Focus Economics say the consensus forecast for real growth in the Euro area is 2.2 percent in 2018, the fastest pace since 2007.

Furthering a partnership with Ohio State University's aviation program launched in 2011, Columbus, Ohio-based NetJets is donating seven new Cessna Skyhawk 172 aircraft to Ohio State University to use for training purposes.
A formal announcement is scheduled at OSU Airport/Don Scott Field on the Northwest Side.

Advances in propulsion are what drive aviation development. Innovative airplanes almost always start with innovative engines, and the airframes follow. In 2016, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers celebrated just such an engine. The society designated the Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp a technology landmark, the organization's highest award, because the Wasp singlehandedly brought about a leap forward in aircraft performance and economics. The tale of its development is still fascinating.
The light and midsize business jet segments appear to be mostly through the "lost decade." But for large-cabin jets, which largely dodged this problem, headwinds could be in the forecast, according to Jon Raviv, the U.S. aerospace and defense senior equity analyst at Citi Research, who spoke last week at the Corporate Jet Investor Miami conference. Citi introduced its "lost decade" thesis in 2013, which said that excess aircraft production in the 2000s created a "shadow" pre-owned inventory that led to an anemic post-Great Recession recovery.
Aftermarket demand may be centered on the widebody and narrowbody segments over the next decade, but a smaller yet still significant amount of MRO spend is anticipated in the turboprop market.
According to Aviation Week's 2018 Commercial Fleet and MRO Forecast, total turboprop MRO demand until 2027 is expected to measure at $4.5 billion, with roughly around a 5 percent share of the aircraft aftermarket.
