Busy Oklahoma mother enjoys success as bail bondsman

Oklahoma County Bondsman Association helps family at Christmas

Ronald Banton died a hero, saving his son by shielding him when they were struck by a drunk driver. The youngster walked away without a scratch. At 5 years old, he still doesn't completely understand what happened. But when members of the Oklahoma County Bondsman Association heard the Bantons' story, they cut a check for $500 to help buy Christmas gifts or anything else the family needed.

West Virginia fugitive who cut off electronic monitoring bracelet caught

Michael Cunningham, 51, was awaiting trial under house arrest when he managed to circumvent his electronic monitoring device. Cunningham then disappeared, having mailed the device to his probation officer. He has, however, been apprehended in North Carolina and is awaiting extradition.

Report: Correctional populations in the US, 2012
U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics
More than half — 56 percent — of the decrease in the U.S. correctional population during 2012 was attributed to a drop in California's correctional population. That decline was driven by the state's Public Safety Realignment Act of 2011.

During 2012, the number of adult individuals under community supervision declined for the fourth consecutive year. By the end of the year, approximately 4.1 million adults moved onto or off probation.
