2010 PDGA Elections

As summer draws near, it's time to prepare for the annual PDGA elections, and to send out the call for candidates. This year the elections will take place from July 1 to July 31, with the elected candidates assuming office as of September 1, 2010. The 2010 PDGA Election will be held online, with members casting their ballots at In 2008 and 2009, the elections saw record levels of participation in terms of the percent of current members voting. Dave Bopp warmed up by taking a few practice shots as he waited for the rest of his golf group to show up. He worked with his putter, taking shots from different angles and different distances. It was an unseasonably warm afternoon, with the sun beaming down. The Jasper County Recreation Department located in Georgia invites everyone to attend two disc golf tournaments that will be held June 12 and 13 at the recreation department, across the street from the ball fields. The plan is to pull players from Macon, Milledgeville, and the Atlanta Area. Disc golf is a new sport that has taken surrounding areas and made a golf like course that uses metal baskets and a disc "Frisbee" to score points, by throwing instead of using a club. More

Outside roundup: County to host 2011 World Disc Golf Championships

The Professional Disc Golf Association has selected Santa Cruz to host the 2011 Pro World Disc Golf Championships. This will be the first time since 1982 that they have been held in California. World Disc Sports in San Jose is producing the event, which will be held among the DeLaveaga, Ryan Ranch, Pinto Lake and CSU-Monterey Bay Oaks courses. Santa Cruz has four local competitors currently in the top 10 of PDGA rankings. Valerie Jenkins is atop the women's standings, and Carrie Berlogar is following in fifth place. More

Fairfax County is once again becoming a destination for disc golf, a sport that peaked in popularity 25 years ago but is gaining momentum with a new generation of players. Escondido's only disc golf course is open in the northern part of Kit Carson Park. The 18-hole Escondido Rotary Club Disc Golf Course has been logging more than 60 players a day since it opened in April, said Ryan Meyer, a representative of the San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club, which built the course with $17,000 in donations and sponsorships.
