Business transformation hinges on great project management
Business transformation is a top priority for many CEOs, but how do companies manage through the complex changes that are necessary to do it? Success requires great execution one project at a time.
Business transformation — whether in the form of a construction project, new processes to improve the customer experience, an enterprise IT rollout, or something else — is a step-by-step process. That means organizations must excel at an unglamorous but essential competency: project management.
How the right tool can help you keep up with project management trends
Business 2 Community
The point of moving from the inbox to a collaboration platform is to get things done faster. But if the collaboration software you're using is one that needs a lengthy time-to-market due to installation, training, programming and other assimilation needs, how fast can you actually go and implement these changes? When can you get started on the actual project?
How to tackle the project management course
Project managers define goals and drive tasks to completion. MBAs drive the business economics in the right direction. But a combination of skills will get you ahead of the game.
Project management skills include being a good organizer, strong communicator and astute motivator, whilst having MBA skills provides you with the ability to utilize information, problem solve critical and strategic situations, and practice ethics.
How Project Portfolio Management is bridging the gap between customer and shareholder
There are two different types of thinkers in business — the visionaries and those immersed in the detail. One of the greatest challenges in business is to manage a harmonious work environment that leverages the strengths of both of these distinct talent pools; one that sees synergies optimized across the various different lines of business. It's a matter of harnessing synchronicity and up until recent times it's also meant unhealthy compromise. Times have changed.
The Agile Holocracy
Agile is a culture, not a set of practices. It is upper management's job to establish that culture, and then let it work. A holocratic organization is one of the better ways to do that. A holocracy is made up of autonomous, self-reliant units called holons (from the Greek word for "whole"). The holons are simultaneously independent from and dependent on the organization that they comprise. That is, a holocracy is simultaneously a whole and its parts.
5 Lessons to ensure project management success
The Var Guy
Everyone takes on projects, but effectively managing a project means the difference between failure and success. The project management function is integral to the oversight of projects, from conception to completion, and the use of effective techniques helps to complete project work on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to the business.
Using a document management system (DMS) to manage project documentation
Having the latest computer equipment is not enough. What businesses need, possibly even more than the most expensive desktops, is an efficient document management system. Without it, a computer is just a machine. Entering, storing, securing, and retrieving data will mostly have to be done manually.
Here are some of the more specific functions of DMS, its limitations, and how it can be of help to project managers.
