PMI OVOC: Meet one of our volunteers

Why I volunteer:

The PMI OVOC has always been my community of professional project managers and the right place to seek knowledge, experience and competency. I decided to volunteer because it gave me the chance to pleasantly work with interesting people towards a common goal where I can learn and share my expertise. It helps me to grow my network and improves my skills while giving back and providing valuable services to the community.

I encourage project managers to volunteer with the PMI OVOC and help the Chapter in providing the best project management services. Volunteering in OVOC helps you develop your career and leadership while enjoyably collaborating with a new network of project managers.

PMI OVOC Lunch Seminar — April 29, 2015: 'More than a Plane Ticket: Leading a Project Overseas'

Our presenter, Edan Puritt, will speak to how we already know that departments in the same city have cultural differences, but imagine how different it is working 10,000 kilometers away in a place with thousands of years of different history, and probably even a different native language. You can't cross that divide with just an airplane ticket.

Edan is a professional IM Strategist at Askari Solutions Inc. with more than 25 years of experience providing Technical, Organization and Educational services. Clientele includes Canadian governmental departments, international non-governmental organizations (based in Canada, Switzerland, Southern Africa, South-east Asia, and the Middle East), trade unions, and private industry/trade sector (Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and United States.)

Building more agile project management offices
FCW
While completing projects on time and on budget is a priority for federal project management offices (PMOs), business partner satisfaction often suffers. In fact, CEB research found that, in both the public and private sectors, 70 per cent of projects are delivered according to the original budget and deadline, but only 38 per cent meet stakeholders' expectations.

A manager's entourage
PM Hut
A manager's entourage is a group of people surrounding the manager, usually subordinates and suppliers, who become part of the scene around the manager. I have seen managers with different types of entourages. Some are fun, others are helpful, and a few dangerous ones.
