Apple closing 20 retail stores in order to expand them, accomodate more customers
Tech Crunch
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a keynote speech at the Goldman Sachs investor conference that Apple was going to close 20 of its retail stores, in order to move them and make them large enough to serve the ongoing influx of Apple customers. Some of Apple's stores aren't big enough, Cook said, noting that its retail outlets now see 10 million people per week across its 400-plus locations.

The HVAC factor: Thinking 'inside the box'
Today's Facility Manager

And, of course, fms are looking to achieve these goals with little or no out-of-pocket (capital) expense.

Shopping center industry welcomes introduction of Marketplace Fairness Act
PR Newswire
The International Council of Shopping Centers welcomed the introduction of bipartisan companion Senate and House bills – the Marketplace Fairness Act – which will grant states the authority to compel sales tax collection on online purchases made by consumers in their state. It will also end the competitive advantage that online sellers currently enjoy by not charging sales tax and improve the sales tax system to better reflect the realities of the 21st century marketplace.

J.C. Penney introducing Canada's Joe Fresh to US shoppers
The Dallas Morning News
Joe Mimran may be the best vendor partner for J.C. Penney's bruised CEO Ron Johnson at this point. The creator of Canada's successful Joe Fresh apparel line has a similar slow-start story, and he's betting the brand's U.S. rollout on Johnson's vision for turning Penney stores into a collection of branded shops. Bricks-and-mortar retailers snooping more on shoppers, too
Minneapolis Star Tribune
Just knowing how many shoppers cross the threshold, and when, can be useful. American Apparel’s store managers thought they were busiest when sales peaked. They were typically off by two hours. Now the retailer gathers traffic data from cameras mounted above the doors and feeds that into its staff-scheduling software. When crowds come, the shops now have enough salespeople to serve them. As a result, sales are up "across the board."
